Omega oils are essential for the good organism functioning, mental and physical health, offering support for the brain, the cardiovascular and circulatory systems. Omega oils can help control the cholesterol levels, improve the hormonal balance and much more. The Omega supplements we are offering are a blend of fish oil (sourced from the best sources)sunflower seed oil and flaxseed oil. Together they are beneficial blend of healthy fats (including essential fatty acids) in easy-to-take capsules.
It is important to respect a ratio of the EFA consumed. The right balance of fatty acids in the diet can promote them working more efficiently and promote health, meanwhile a deliberate and un-proportioned consumption of fatty acids can in fact encourage inflammation and even contribute to development of diseases. The average diet of British population includes a ratio of Omega
to Omega oils of 1:10, whereas the recommended ratio is 1:3. The Omega 3-6-9 Oils in our supplement have been balanced to the required concentration.
We have the assumption that the fats automatically are foods that will lead to weight gain and deterioration of health. However, the picture is slightly different then the general perception — while indeed some fats, such as the saturated fats need to be avoided and are known to induce be bad for general health, there are other fats which are essential to maintaining the good health. Our modern diet is largely deprived of these "good" fats.
It was established that there are two types of polyunsaturated fats, called Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids (EFAs). The reason why they are so important to be included in the daily diet is that they cannot produce them itself. They are found in every cell of the human body and play an important role in a number of biological functions and processes, such as maintaining cells, regulating body temperature, controlling the blood pressure, supporting the reproductive function and the immune activity.
In case there is a deficiency in unsaturated fats such as Omega 3 and Omega 6, the body will employ saturated fats to create cellular membranes. The cells built with saturated fats membranes are not performing as good as those which are built on Omega oils and they don't accomplish some basic cellular functions.
Omega 9 (Oleic acid) is a monounsaturated fat, not classed as an EFA as it can be produced by the body. However, it is considered to be highly beneficial when also obtained from the food.
Flaxseed is considered to be one of the best sources of Omega 3 fatty acids. Together with the Omega 3, flaxseed is also rich in Lignans — a type of fibre that once reaches the gut can be changed by intestinal bacteria into active compounds which help prevent disease and improve the immune response.
Lignans can also help to modulate hormone levels, relieve some of the symptoms associated to menopause such as hot flashes, yeast infections and vaginal dryness, but also have proved to have beneficial effects on the symptoms caused by hormonal imbalance. Recent studies have also proved that the Omega fatty acids (which are contained in the Flaxseed oil as well) are beneficial for heart health control, by lowering the blood levels of Homocysteine, a protein believed to have a major role in the occurrence of cardiovascular disease.
Beneficial reports are also received from bodybuilders who claim flaxseed oil supplements increase their stamina, help with the recovery after the workouts. Partly this could be caused by the high contents of the natural antioxidants contained in the Flaxseed oil, which help reduce the muscular soreness and recover more quickly. Also, it is well known that the antioxidants have also an anti-inflammatory action and this might be another cause of this component being recognized as beneficial by the gym-goers.
The main components found in the fish oils are DocoHexaenoic Acid (DHA) and Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA). DHA is abundant in the oily fish but is also an important component of the human brain cell membranes and retina. It is important for transmimtting the neural signals from the eyes to be brain and has a major function in the normal brain and eye development. DHA have been linked to depression, dementia, mood changes, ADHD, memory loss and visual problems.
On the other hand, EPA is considered to be beneficial for a series of autoimmune and inflammatory disorders including arthritis, asthma, Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, Systemic LUpus Erythematosus and psoriasis. Several studies had proved a link between the seafood intake and depressive symptoms, postpartum depression and schizoprenia, as well as to the severity of symptoms. It is considered that there are some psychotheraputic mechanisms of action that occur in the presence of this essential fatty acid. Although there is limited research in this area at this point, EPA is believed to improve the symptoms of schizophrenia, depression and increase remission time in bipolar disorder.
Sunflower oil is high in vitamin E and low in saturated fat, Omega 6 fatty and linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated fat which makes up to 65 % of the oil in natural sunflower oil and oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat, making up 21%. Omega 6 fatty acids support brain function, healthy skin and bones and help to regulate the metabolism and support the reproductive function.
Vitamin E (D Alpha Tocopherol) is considered to be a potent antioxidant, with important beneficial effects on the brain function, helps protect against the harmful effects of the free radicals, encourage recovery, support the cardiovascular and immune functions. Another reason why Vitamin E has been added to this formula is because the Omega oils have the tendency to oxidise very easily and in this case vitamin E will balance the blend of fish oils and reduce the oxidative stress on the entire body. An increased intake of Vitamin E can counteract this effect.
