The ingredients of PEA Protein PLUS explained

Below we will give you an introduction to the ingredients of PEA Protein PLUS, a natural protein powder. It is a formula which due to its ingredients is easily digested, does not bloat and is perfect to help you achieve your goals or during recovery periods.

Peas

A natural source of vegetable bioavailable source of protein, low in fat. It also has an excellent nutritional and amino-acid profile, making it an ideal source of these nutrients.
Peas are a source of complete protein. This means the proteins which are found in peas contain all the 9 essential amino-acids in an adequate proportion. They are all necessary to complete our dietary needs. Peas are also rich in branched chain amino acids(leucine, isoleucine, valine), lysine (an essential amino-acid), glutamine (takes part in the protein synthesis), arginine (takes part in the immune response and weight control). This combination of amino-acids makes peas very special and they provide these compounds in a way that can not be found in another comercially available protein.

Vitamins are also part of the benefits associated with peas. Vitamin A, riboflavin, niacin, folate, thiamin, pantothenic acin, pyridoxine, vitamin B6, C and K. Minerals also are found, including calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, copper and manganese. Other nutrients which can be found in peas are soluble and insoluble dietary fibre, lutein (a vitamin A carotenoid), phyto-nutrients (beta-sitosterol) and antioxidants.
Peas are also low in fat, calories, sodium and don not contain cholesterol. Our product, PEA Protein PLUS is free of hexanes and other toxic chemicals which some manufacturers can allow in their product due to extraction technique. The protein in our powder is extracted using only water, pressure and then a technique called flocculation.

Cinnamon

A recognized source of vitamin A, C, K, minerals such as calcium, iron, manganese, potassium, zinc. It is also rich in dietary fibre, flavonoids, anti-oxidants and also contains beneficial oils such as eugenol. It can assist with controlling the blood sugar level, it is low in saturated fat, cholesterol or sodium. Cinnamon can also slow the rate a which the stomach empties after meals, this way preventing the blood sugar spike after each meal, especially in people predisposed to diabetes.

Spinach

There is a good reason why spinach is considered to be at the top of the superfood list — it is loaded with iron, calcium, folic acid, vitamins such as K, C, fibre, carotenoids, lutein and bioflavonoids.
All the nutrients found in spinach are of good use: the calcium keeps the bones strong while the vitamins A and C, fibre, folic acid, magnesium and the other minerals help to support the immune system and prevent illness. Also, it was established that spinach can lower the blood levels of homocysteine, a protein that damages the arteries and this way spinach can be considered a preventive measure against heart disease.

Chlorella

Due to the high amount of chlorophyll that it contains, this plant has gained its name and it proved to be a powerful detoxification aid and chlorophyll is a potent and beneficial phyto-chemical which binds with heavy metals and pesticides such as PCBs, that in time can accumulate in the human body.
Another advantage of chlorophyll is that is contained in a fibrous mass, which means that it supports healthy digestion but also having a cleansing action, maintains the elimination of toxins, promotes a healthy liver, helps keep the blood free from impurities and supports the immune system.

Acai berries

As soon as acai berries have been recognized as a "superfruit" in the Western world, their popularity has increased exponentially. They are high in nutrients, antioxidants, they contain a wide array of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids. Originally coming from the Amazonian rainforest of Central and South America, the acai berries continue to be one of the most popular natural source of antioxidants. They also provide anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-mutagenic properties. Below you can find the most important beneficial effects of acai berries:

  • Supporting the immune system — the dark pigment found in acai berries, called anthocyanins, is a powerful antioxidant. Takes part from the flavonoid family of molecules and have been identified as efficient in neutralising free radicals.
  • Improving cardiac function — acai berries are a source of protein and fibre which are considered to offer a degree of heart protection.
  • Lowering cholesterol — Acai berries are a source of Omega 6, 9 fatty acids and phytosterols. They all play an important role in lowering the blood cholesterol level. In turn, this offers a degree of protection for the cardiovascular system.

Dandelion root

Dandelion has been used in the traditional herbal pharmacopoeia for a long time. In Europe, the dandelion is still used as a nutritional and herbal power house, used in recipes for marmalade or tinctures. It is also proved to be a gentle laxative, digestive aid, efficient in treating liver and kidney problems and relieving inflammation. Dandelion is used in boils, fever, diarrhoea and regulating the blood sugar levels. Dandelion root is an appetite stimulant as well.

Green tea

Rich in a range on antioxidants such as the catechin polyphenols, and particularly Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which is considered to be one of the most powerful. Some studies even suggest that the green tea polyphenols have a stronger antioxdidant action that the action of vitamin C and E. Green tea is also effective at lowering the LDL cholesterol and the blood pressure, preventing the formation of blood clots as well. In Asia, where the green tea is consumed regularly, the incidence of heart disease is lower than in the Western countries an it is thought that partly this is due to the green tea consumption.
Also, it is thought that there is a strong link between the green tea and weight loss, as the polyphenols in the green tea induce thermogenesis, the process through which the calories are burned faster and therefore the metabolic rate increases, not affecting the heart rate.

Alfalfa

Being rich in vitamins (pro-vitamin A, B6, C, D, E, K and P), chlorophyll, minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc), 8 essential amino acids and 8 essential enzymes among which are amylase (helps digesting the starch), coagulase (coagulates the milk), invertase (converts sugar to dextrose), emulsin (acts upon sugars), peroxidase (oxidises blood), lipase (fat-splitting), pectinase (forms a vegetable jelly from pectin), protease (digests proteins).
Other active ingredients contained in alfalfa are isoflavones, sterols and phytoestrogens (help in controlling the cholesterol levels). It also contains derivatives of cumarin. Cumarin is known for its anti-platelet function, meaning it prevents the formation of clots and protects the body against atherosclerosis build-up along the artery walls.

Spirulina

Used mainly for boosting the immune system, spirulina is a nutritious blue-green algae. It also can improve digestion, reducing fatigue and building endurance, cleansing and helps with detoxification. It controls appetite, maintains a healthy heart function, supports liver and kidney function, reduces the inflammation and alleviates the allergy symptoms. It is a natural source of proteins, vitamins, minerals, Omega 6 fatty acids and other phytonutrients.

Baobab fruit

The baobab is a tree that can grow to impressive dimensions, it is found in Africa and its fruits contain 3 times as much vitamin C as oranges, 50% more calcium than spinach or milk and is a plentiful source of antioxidants. The fruit fibre has a prebiotic quality, stimulating the good bacteria in the gut. It is also rich in potassium, phosphorus thus being great both for brain, nerves and healthy bones.
