Krill Oil — an extraordinary source of Omega 3 oils

Krill compared to a hand. On this page you can buy sustainable krill oilOur oceans are an important source of nutrients and marine products are an important part of the world's diet. An important source of Omega 3 oils can be found in Krill, a species of crustaceans (from 1 to 5cm in length), living in the cold waters of the Antarctic Ocean or the North Pacific. Krill are considered to be at the bottom of the marine food chain. They are feeding on microscopic oceanic plant life (phytoplankton) and represents a food source for fish, whales, sharks, penguins, seals and some sea birds. We are proud to announce that our manufacturers are using only krill exclusively from sustainable fisheries in the Antarctic Ocean, through Aker Biomarine™, who work closely with the World Wildlife Foundation Norway to ensure sustainable krill harvesting.

More about Omega 3 oils and phospholipids

Omega 3 fatty acids are part of the Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) which also include Omega 6 fats. These type of fats are beneficial to the body but cannot be produced by it, therefore they must be obtained from the diet. The benefits of Omega oils include but are not limited to heart health, immune function, mood support and metabolism. Ideally, a diet rich in fish would allow the human body to assimilate the Omega fats necessary for a proper body function. Unfortunately, there are studies which show that due to pollution and degree of contamination of modern fisheries, eating fish can potentially expose you to a high degree of contamination with industrial pollutants such as mercury, PCB, heavy metals and even radioactive poisons.

Krill oil is a unique source of both antioxidants and Omega 3 oils

The combination of antioxidants and Omega oil met in Krill oil is not met in fish or cod liver oil. It also carries the Omega 3 oils in the form of phospholipids, which deliver the fatty acids directly to the body's cells. Scientific evidence shows that the safest and most effective carriers of EPA and DHA are these phospholipids. Inferior krill oil brands and standard fish oils lack this phospholipid complex.

Phospholipids are important to the cellular membrane growth and recovery, regulating the cellular transport by acting as "gate-keepers". They protect the cell from the action of free radicals and allowing at the same time for the fatty acid molecules to pass through the intestinal wall. This helps Omega 3 fats significantly more bioavailable than those in fish oil, allowing the EPA and DHA to directly enter the cells and also improves the Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio. This balance between the Omega 3 and 6 oils is important, most of the people these days consume an over-abundance of omega 6 fats.

Krill Oil — a great source of antioxidants

Krill Oil is a powerful source of natural and pure Omega 3 oils, also being rich in another antioxidant — astaxanthin. Antioxidants are great for their properties to protect cells against the damage of harmful free radicals - unstable substances which are by-products of various process in the body and which contribute to certain chronic diseases. Astahanthins are special for their properties of crossing the blood-brain barrier and thus they can protect the eyes, brain and the entire nervous system from the damage of free radicals. Krill oil is also rich in phospholipids, an important component of the human cell membranes. It will help cell regeneration and recover from various affections which imply cell recovery and an immune response.
Asthaxanthins originates in the bright algae that krill eat and which then accumulate as the red bright pigment which give them and other crustaceans their red colour. Beside the fact that these antioxidants are highly beneficial for the nervous system, they can also protect against the harmful effects of UV radiation and the reduction of collagen.

Krill oil is used for the same reason as the fish oil, flax seed oil or any other Omega 3 fatty acid. The advantage of Krill oil over the fish oil is that it doesn't cause side effects such as an after-taste or fishy burps. Another advantage of using Krill oil over the fish oil is that it is easier absorbed by the body and it contains higher amounts of Astaxanthins (antioxidants).

Krill oil has an Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity 40 times more powerful than those of fish oil

Other conditions in which Krill Oil is of good use

Premenstrual syndrome

Krill oil supplements can be very beneficial on the women well-being, in particular, it can alleviate the symptoms of dysmenorrhea, a condition which is caused by severe uterine pain during the menstruation. It also proves to be helpful in emotional symptomsof post-menstrual syndrome (PMS)

Cholesterol

Krill oil is considered to help boosting the levels of "good" cholesterol HDL and reduce the effects of the LDL "bad" cholesterol. Combining this effect with the anti-inflammatory properties and the antioxidants effect proves that krill oil can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease and it supports the cardiovascular function.

Arthritis

Due to the fact that it demonstrates important anti-inflammatory properties, krill oil can help in reducing the chronic inflammation and can provide benefits in such diseases as rheumatoid arthritis and joint disease. It is considered that the anti-inflammatory effect of krill oil is due to the fact that it inhibits the inflammatory mediators like thromboxane, prostacyclin and leukotrienes, produced by cells in response to inflammation.

Weight management

By lowering the high cholesterol levels and due to its controlling effect on blood sugar levels, krill oil is considered to have a beneficial effect on the weight loss process and is considered to support a reaction known as "fuel partitioning" (the storage of glucose as glycogen in muscle), while at the same time diverting fatty acids away from fat synthesis and into oxidative pathways. In other words, omega 3 fatty acids stimulate the use of fatty acids as fuel instead of storing these as fat deposits, which means that krill oil can burn fat.

Depression

Krill oil can be used in treatment of resistant depression and cognitive disorders. Taking EPA supplements has been proven to be beneficial in improving concentration, ADD, ADHD, OCD, mood, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression).

Krill oil can be successfully combined with our other antioxidants, such as Acai Berry, MAXvits Super Foods or GreeNourish Complete. Together with these supplements you'll boost your immune system and help your body recover and regain its strength.
